Disgraced O2 to compensate customers hit by network disruption

Mobile phone company will give pay-monthly customers 10% off bill 'as a gesture of goodwill and to say sorry'

O2 is to compensate hundreds of thousands of customers following more than 24 hours of disruption to its network last week.

Customers who pay monthly will receive 10% off their July subscription, which will be applied on their September bill – the equivalent to three days back.

Pay-as-you-go customers will get 10% extra on their first top-up in September.

The mobile phone company said it recognised that the problems, which it claimed affected one-third of its customers, had caused "inconvenience and frustration".

The company said: "We have now identified all those customers directly affected (those whose devices could not connect on our system) and we are giving them the equivalent of three days back for the disruption as a gesture of goodwill and to say sorry."

All customers, including those who were not affected, will also be given a £10 voucher to spend in O2 stores.

Radio 1′s Big Weekend on Hackney Marshes

This weekend huge names from Jay Z and Nas to Florence and the Machine and Bombay Bicycle Club will be taking to the stage at Hackney Weekend.
BBC Radio 1 will take over Hackney Marshes from Saturday 22 – Sunday 23 June for UK’s largest free music festival as part of the BBC’s contribution to the Cultural Olympiad which launches this week.
Live music will take place across six stages offering an eclectic mix of music genres including, hip hop, dance, folk and indie.
The acts range from worldwide names to exciting new talent such as Random Impulse and Kersha Bailey – gems discovered by Radio 1 DJs who will perform on the BBC Introducing Stage.
The headliners for Saturday 22 include Jay Z, Kasabian, Jack White, Sean Paul and Swedish House Mafia.
The headliners for Sunday 23 include Rihanna, Lana Del Ray, Chase and Status, Nas and David Guetta.
The audience is set to reach 50,000 people for each day of the festival. Listeners registered for tickets months before the event and a number of lucky people won free tickets to  one day of the festival – priority was given to those who live in Hackney and the surrounding boroughs.

Cheryl Cole breaks 2012 UK Single Chart record with 'Call My Name' Gary Barlow and his Commonwealth Band hold onto UK Album Chart top spot

Cheryl Cole has recorded the fastest selling UK single of 2012 with 'Call My Name' and debuts in at Number One.

The track, which has been written and produced by Calvin Harris, is the singer's first release under the name of simply Cheryl and has knocked Gary Barlow and his Commonwealth Band down to Number 3 with their single 'Sing', reports the Official Charts Company.

Flo Rida's 'Whistle' is a non-mover at Number 2, Coldplay and Rihanna's collaboration 'Princess of China' jumped four places to land at Number 4 and Rudimental's 'Feel The Love' drops one place to Number 5.




While they may have been knocked off their perch in the UK Singles Chart, Gary Barlow and his Commonwealth Band will be celebrating after holding off Usher and Amy MacDonald, who debuted in at Number 3 and 2 respectively, to retain the UK Number 1 album slot with 'Sing' – the official Queen's Jubilee album.

Elsewhere in the UK Album Chart, Maximo Park are new in at Number 13 with their fourth album 'National Health', while Hot Chip debut at Number 14 with 'In Our Heads'.

Following on from their recent reunion shows, The Stone Roses have re-entered the chart with 'The Stones Roses (The Very Best Of) bouncing back into Number 21. Meanwhile, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (AKA Orlando Higginbottom) failed to break into the Top 20 with his debut album 'Trouble' entering in at Number 35.
